Cambodia and Korea Sign MoU on Military Cooperation

PHNOM PENH: The Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Army, Lt. Gen. Hun Manet, met with the Commander of the Army of the Republic of Korea, General Park Jeong Hwan, on Wednesday, 29 December, wherein the two commanders jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding through a VTC system on military cooperation.

This MoU aims to promote greater friendship between the two countries based on mutual trust for the cause of peace and humanity.

In light of the existing relations between the two sides, signing this MoU is regarded as a turning point in history, as it will be an important foundation for strengthening and expanding military cooperation activities in the future.

During the meeting, both the Cambodian and Korean side recalled the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 1970, and expressed their mutual appreciation for the development of friendship and cooperation in all fields. The past 25 years, especially, have been a highlight, following the re-establishment of diplomatic ties in 1997 under the efforts of Prime Minister Hun Sen and the leaders of the Republic of Korea.

The two army commanders noted that bilateral cooperation in the field of defense is also making remarkable progress, especially after an MoU was signed between the two countries’ Ministries of Defense in 2018.

The foundation of this military relationship has created opportunities and promoted closer ties between the armies from Cambodia and the Republic of Korea, as demonstrated by the many successful achievements made thus far, including several exchanges of visits, joint-training of human resources, the provision of military equipment, and more.
